Desk Mat - Stitched

The anchor of the desk.

A single piece of full grain vegetable-tanned leather, hand cut to 60x30cm, edge burnished by hand, and finished with a hand-sewn linen perimeter stitch.   Felt back to prevent movement. Made to be used every day. 

The desk mat develops the most dramatic patina of any piece in the Oxley range.  The heel of the hand darkens the leather over months.   Papers leave their own trace.   After a year, it holds a record of everyday worked. 

Made by a single maker, from first cut to final stamp.  Not assembled in stages.  Not passed between hands.
